A clear and structured presentation of Saint Augustine's approach to understanding and teaching the Bible.

In On Christian Doctrine, Augustine sets out principles for reading and interpreting Scripture, distinguishing between literal and figurative meaning and offering practical guidance for approaching difficult passages. His method combines careful reasoning with a focus on clarity, making the work both systematic and accessible.

Divided into four books, the treatise addresses the nature of language and signs, the interpretation of Scripture, and the role of rhetoric in communicating religious teaching. Its influence has extended across centuries, shaping both theological study and broader approaches to reading complex texts.
