A new translation of the first book of Ovid's "Tristia," rendered in heroic English verse. Ovid's "Tristia" recounts the poet's exile from Rome to Tomis on the Black Sea, imposed by the emperor Augustus. The poems detail Ovid's despair, loneliness, and longing for home, offering a poignant glimpse into the life of a celebrated poet in disgrace. This translation seeks to capture the emotional depth and literary artistry of Ovid's original Latin, making it accessible to a contemporary audience. This edition will appeal to readers interested in classical literature, Roman history, and the art of translation.
