"We are the music-makers, / And we are the dreamers of dreams..."

Arthur O'Shaughnessy (1844-1881) wrote only a handful of poems in a short life, but one of them gave the language two of its most enduring phrases - "movers and shakers" and "dreamers of dreams."

His "Ode," which opens Music and Moonlight (1874), is a hymn to the artists and dreamers who, unnoticed, remake the world. This Northlume Library edition sets that Ode as its title piece and gathers around it a selection of the lyric poems of his first book, An Epic of Women (1870) - songs of love and death, memory and longing, from a poet of the late Romantic twilight and the pre-Raphaelite circle.
